Dear Parents,
Please find suggested work for the coming week. Please do not feel obligated to complete all of the work set if circumstances do not allow. We are well aware that some families will be under pressure with parents working from home, numerous children looking for attention etc so please just do your best. As I said in the message on Aladdin this morning we will aim to have this work uploaded to the website and sent to parents by Friday evening from now on to give you all time to organise your time.
Please contact your child's teacher if you have any queries regarding the work set. We all look forward to seeing the children upload some of their work on Seesaw so that we can give some feedback and remain a visible presence for all the children.
Keep safe,
Colm

21st June
Dear Parents,
What a strange year!! Never could we have envisioned the way the year has ended when we started the school year at the end of August last year. I’d like to say a big thank you to all the parents for all your support over the past few months and a big well done to all the children for their fantastic engagement on Seesaw and with Distance Learning over these past few months. I know it can’t replace the classroom, but all their hard work will be of enormous benefit when we go back in September. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers for all that they have done during these strange times.
Thank you to all the parents who returned school books on Friday. It was great to see you all again. If you were unable to attend on Friday please ensure you return all books in September as we need to sort out book orders as soon as possible on our return. All remaining reports will be posted in the morning.
Class Allocation 2020/21
Junior & Senior Infants - Ms Áine Whelan
First & Second - Ms Gillian Delaney
Third & Fourth - Mr Bertie Gahan
Fifth - Ms Catherine O’Brien
Sixth - Mr Colm Gallagher
SET Team - Ms Brid McGrath & Mrs Catherine Doyle
This week will see the end of the current year and we will be running an Active Week on Seesaw with a different Strand of the PE Curriculum featured each day so make sure to check that out over the coming week. We look forward to seeing all the children get involved in the various activities.
Kind Regards,
Colm Gallagher
17th June
Hi folks,
It is planned to hold a book return and collection day on Friday 19th. I am attaching a list of books that were sent home with each class on 12th March. In addition to these children may have had other books in their bag or at home on the day the school closed. It is hoped to have this return in the back of the school on the yard weather dependent.
Parents will follow a one way system around the school, entering via the main gate and walking around past the shelter, and exiting through the small gate at the statue. Social distancing will be in place so please follow the markings and directions of school staff. Please have all the books in a bag and teachers will collect and check same. Parents will also receive school reports and any copies, art etc that were left in school. Obviously if the weather is against us we will have to use the school hall as an alternative.
Each classroom will be allocated a window to return and collect books. If you have children in different classrooms please just pick the time that suits best.
12:00-12:15 Mr Gallagher
12:15-12:30 Ms McGrath
12:30 -12:45 Ms Lehane
12:45- 1:00 Ms Delaney
1:00 - 1:15 Mrs Doyle
Thank you for your co-operation in this matter,
Regards,
Colm

Hi folks,
I hope you all enjoyed the STEM week activities last week. It was great to see so many great examples of the kids work on Seesaw during the week. This week is Well-being week, for parents and kids. We are well aware of the sacrifices that you the parents have made over the past 3 months. Some of you have had to juggle working from home with homeschooling while also doing all the usual household chores. Even with your busy lives it has been great to see so many of you helping your children with their work and uploading it to Seesaw. As I've said to any of the parents I've spoken to, the children are learning so many life skills that we could never hope to teach in the classroom. It's been fantastic to see all the home baking and creative art and different activities that are taking place in everyone's house during these times. So next week is not just for the kids, its a time for you to unwind, relax and take a moment for yourselves.
Work will be uploaded to Seesaw at 9 am every morning. As always there will be a selection of activities. Do not feel under any pressure to complete them all. Indeed you may have your own plans as to how to look after your well-being, so by all means continue. There will also be a bank of additional activities released tomorrow which may be of interest to you.
We are currently trying to put plans in place for next September. We will of course have to follow Government guidelines on this. I hope to issue a draft calendar and class allocations in the coming weeks too. We are also hoping to organise a book return day next Friday 19th were parents can return any school books that are at home and collect any copies, workbooks and belongings that remain in school. I will issue details of this in the coming days once we have finalised procedures.
Enjoy your well-being week and try to take time for yourselves,
Mr Gallagher
7th June
Hi folks,
I hope you and your family are keeping well. This week begins a series of themed weeks up to the end of June. This weeks theme is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths). The teachers will be releasing work at 9am each morning with a selection of experiments suitable for all members of the family. The idea is that families can pick and choose which experiment to try. The majority of experiments will require things that are available in most homes. Do not worry if you cannot complete any of these because you are missing an item. There are numerous websites and videos on Youtube that show other science experiments that you might like to try instead. We would love to see pictures of the kids completing these.
The older children will be able to use the template below to write up their experiment, thus working on their Procedural writing genre also. Don't forget to include a drawing to go along with the text. Teachers will also be sending out other activities on Seesaw during the week to challenge the kids mathematical problem solving skills.
We hope you enjoy trying out some of these challenges as a family during the week.

Hi folks,
I hope you all had a nice relaxing Bank holiday weekend. Hard to believe that we are already into the last month of what has been a very strange school year. Who could have imagined that we would all be expert users of Seesaw and Zoom and all sorts of other online resources when we started the year in September. It's a credit to all the children ,and indeed their parents, that they have not let a little thing like a Global Pandemic get in the way of their learning.
Normally in June we start to ease of on the work as normally Sports days and school Tours and so much more takeover. This year is going to be no different. We will continue with book work this week but the last 3 weeks will all see us step away from the books and complete more active tasks. Next week will be a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) themed week. The following week will be a Mindfulness and Wellbeing Week and we will finish the month with an Active week. I have no doubt the children will enjoy the various activities the teachers have in store for them. BUT we still have a little work to complete this week and I'm confident the kids will continue to give 100% in all their assigned work.
Again, feel free to pick and choose from the assigned work below and remember not to put yourself or the children under any pressure. All the children in the country are in the same boat and we will hit the ground running in September.
Take care of each other and continue to stay safe,
Mr Gallagher

Hi folks,
I hope everyone is keeping well at these times. Time is flying by and its hard to believe that we are almost into June. Once again we were all delighted to see the engagement of the kids during the past week on Seesaw. The teachers love to see all the hard work you are doing.
I know that some parents may be struggling to keep their children motivated the longer this goes on and especially with the nice weather outside. It is our intention to place a greater emphasis on different topics in the coming week such as Active week and STEM week which we hope will help in improving motivation levels for the kids.
The suggested work for the coming week is below and as usual do not feel under any obligation to complete all of it. Next weekend is the June Bank Holiday so there will be no work next Monday.
Looking forward to seeing more great work this week,
Mr Gallagher

Hi folks,
I want to thank everyone for their engagement with Seesaw last week. It was fantastic to see so many of our students get involved and interact with their teachers. The teachers were all thrilled to hear from you and to see what super work you have all been doing at home with your parents. A big thank you to all the parents!! We understand it's not easy at this time juggling work commitments, childcare, home schooling and coping with a global pandemic but we want you to know we really appreciate all the work you are doing with your children.
While these are strange times and it can be hard to gauge whether you are doing too much or too little school work with your kids, please be assured that all parents throughout the country are having the same thoughts. We are well aware that some parents might worry that their children will fall behind through missing 'normal' school but rest assured once we get the kids back in the classroom we will work tirelessly to get all the work caught up. We envision that the first month back will be picking up were we left off on 12th March when schools closed.
Please find the suggested work for the week ahead below. As always do not feel under pressure to cover all of it if the situation does not allow. We know that in addition to any work our teachers assign, the children are also learning a multitude of life skills from yourselves each day. We look forward to seeing more of your work samples this week on Seesaw. I'm glad we are all finding it easy to use.

Hi folks,
Hope everyone enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend. Not quite the same when we can't visit the lovely beaches or go visit our friends and family but hopefully once the restrictions start to get lifted we will appreciate the simple things even more. By now everyone should have a unique code for Seesaw and indeed it was so good hearing from so many of the children in the past day or two. As I said before if you have not received your code or are having any difficulty or questions surrounding the use of Seesaw please do not hesitate to contact me on [email protected]. The easiest way to access Seesaw is simply downloading the Seesaw Class app onto your smartphone or tablet (free). You can also access it online by going to the website web.seesaw.me. The settings have been changed so that only the teacher will see the work being uploaded.
Please find details of work for the week ahead. In addition to this, teachers will be putting activities up on Seesaw for the kids to access. As always, we are aware that every family circumstance is different so please do not feel under pressure to complete all the work assigned on the given day or to attempt all the additional tasks uploaded to Seesaw. Do as much or as little as you feel your child and indeed yourself are capable of on any given day. Teachers are looking forward to seeing some samples of the work being completed and being able to give some limited feedback back to the kids. While not the same as coming to the teachers desk with the work to get corrected, it does encourage the child to take care and try their best we hope.
Please email your class teacher if you have any queries with regard to the assigned work.
Looking forward to getting started with Seesaw,
Mr Gallagher

2nd May
Hi folks,
Following last night's updates it looks like we will not be returning to school this academic year unfortunately. Although we had been engaging with families and are very impressed with pupils' learning (and parents' teaching) over the past 5 weeks, we are now hoping to introduce Seesaw as a schoolwide learning platform to enable more contact between the children and their teachers.
Some classes will be familiar with this platform already having used it in class before and we’re sure you’ll all find it super easy to navigate and use. We appreciate that the children are working really hard at home and Seesaw gives them an opportunity to share this hard work with their teacher and receive some feedback in return.
Here’s how it works – You must download the Seesaw Class App (free) or access it through the seesaw website. You will use your unique code to access your childs class. The weekly work will still be uploaded to the website each weekend but teachers may put some additional tasks on the Seesaw app from time to time. Once pupils have completed work, they can save it to their journal where teachers will be able to view and give feedback. Please email your class teacher if you are experiencing any difficulties with logging in or engagement with Seesaw.
Each child will be given their own unique code to access seesaw and the platform is very safe and is GDPR compliant. These codes will be sent out tomorrow(Sunday). If you download the app and use the code we are assuming consent has been given.
There are several tutorials online to help us 'upskill', it will be a learning curve for ALL concerned but we are confident that it will be worthwhile. I am including some links and guides below about Seesaw, a quick google search will also yield several results.
If any families cannot access the Internet or Seesaw, we can make alternative arrangements so please contact me on [email protected]. Likewise if any parent has any queries regarding the use of Seesaw please contact me on this address and I will answer any questions.
Looking forward to getting started on Seesaw,
Mr Gallagher

Homework 20th April to 1st May
Dear Parents,
I hope you all had an enjoyable and as relaxing as possible Easter. Thank you to all the parents who responded to the survey I sent out at the beginning of the holidays. This provided great feedback to us and we have tried to take all your comments on board while providing the work for the next fortnight. As I am aware that online resources are not always accessible to children we have tried to provide plenty of work that can be completed offline. We have tried to post work that follows on from the curriculum as best we can under the circumstances.
As before I would ask that you try and complete tasks in the core subjects (English and Maths) everyday and dip in and out of the other tasks. I'd only ask that the children try their best and don't worry if they get stuck. I have included email addresses for all teachers, so should you need any clarification or further information on the work set you can discuss it with your child's teacher.
I hope that parents are not getting too stressed by the level or amount of work being set. I understand it is not easy to teach/supervise your children while also possibly working from home yourselves. At the current time it is more important to ensure your children's and your own well-being are looked after. All we can do at present is our best and trust that when we get back to school we will catch up on any work that's needed. Once again, keep an eye out for our Twitter account where we will be posting additional suggestions during the week.
The RTE School Hub continues from 11am-12pm from Monday. Cúla4 Ar Scoil begins on Monday on TG4 from 10:00am-10:30am. Some of the work provided will tie in with these shows so we'd recommend you tune in some days if you can.
Please continue to stay safe and social distance,
Mr Gallagher

All we can do at present is our best and trust that when we get back to school we will catch up on any work that's needed. Once again, keep an eye out for our Twitter account where we will be posting additional suggestions during the week.
The RTE School Hub continues from 11am-12pm from Monday. Cúla4 Ar Scoil begins on Monday on TG4 from 10:00am-10:30am. Some of the work provided will tie in with these shows so we'd recommend you tune in some days if you can.
Please continue to stay safe and social distance,
Mr Gallagher

Covid-19 School Closure
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We hope you are all keeping well and that your children are adapting to learning at home! With the news that schools will remain closed until April 19th I am providing some additional suggestions for work that can be carried out at home next week. On the day we finished up, each class was provided with some homework to complete. While some children will have completed some or all of this work I am aware that every family's circumstances are different during these challenging times. We are experiencing unprecedented times at present and I do not wish to overburden any family at such an uncertain time.
As such please note that the additional list of classwork is just that, additional. Likewise the Padlet of resources that each class teacher has created again only gives a link to suggested resources. Feel free to dip in and out of them as you see fit. Do not worry if you cannot access some of the sites or print off material. Children will catch up with all work once we return to school. I have also shared details of how parents can access the textbooks that are used in class should you wish to use them as reference.
At the moment the health, both mental and physical, of the children take precedence over their academic work. These days are very strange and your child may be a little worried about what they are listening to. I would suggest they keep away from social media as there is a lot of hype and misinformation there.
Please keep an eye on our Twitter account @courtnacuddyns for additional suggestions of activities which are being posted daily. Again these are only suggestions, there is no expectation for all these activities to be completed. Should you have any queries regarding any of this, you can contact the school on [email protected].
Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Kind Regards,
Mr. Gallagher
