Physical Education
Courtnacuddy N.S. is committed to providing high-quality Physical Education to all pupils. As per the Department of Education Curriculum and Guidelines for Physical Education, all classes receive 60 minutes of formal PE lessons each week. This is split between 2 days of the week. All classes are taught the strands of Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Games and Outdoor & Adventure each year. Of course we encourage brain and movement breaks throughout the days where possible. We also encourage parents to ensure their child also engages in some form of activity at home to ensure they receive the 60 minutes per day children are recommended to get. Pupils from 4th-6th class welcome the return of swimming lessons in the Waterfront in Enniscorthy to engage in the strand of Aquatics. This is very anticipated as we haven’t had the opportunity the past 2 years to partake in these lessons. This will begin in Term 2 for the duration of 8 weeks.
Teachers use a variety of resources to guide them in delivering quality PE lessons. PSSI Lesson Plans are widely used throughout the school and we are focussing the Athletics strand and the fundamental skills of running for the school year 2022/2023. We are introducing the Move Well, Move Often programme to teach the Fundamental Movement Skills to all pupils. This year we have come together as a staff and decided that running will be our focus for this year. We have all agreed as a staff that this fundamental skill is extremely important for all children. This focus will allow for the sharing of resources and ideas among staff.
