Partnerships
- Davidstown/Courtnacuddy GAA – we have a very strong school-club link with our local GAA club. We are very lucky to have access to the sports grounds which we can use for PE during the summer months. Hurling 365 is an initiative that we run and the club work with us in teaching skills to the pupils before school.
- Hockey Ireland – coaches from Hockey Ireland visit the school for a block of time (6 weeks) to teach the skills for playing hockey. This is a new skill which was introduced during Active Week in June 2022. We welcome them to our school and can’t wait to learn new skills this year towards the end of Term 1 as well as a return for Active Week 2023.
- GAA coaches – We are very lucky to have our GAA coach come in every Wednesday throughout the entire year to engage every class in the skills for both Gaelic football and Hurling. Our GPO plays a vital role in the development and promotion of games in our school.
- Active Flag Committee – Our Active Flag Committee is made up of 10 pupils from 3rd-6th class and 2 teachers; Mrs. Delaney & Ms. Roche. Pupils are given various roles and tasks to carry out throughout the school year such as making announcements at assembly, giving messages to the classrooms on various initiatives, designing posters for the school, carrying out surveys and checking the suggestion box. Our pupils play a very important role in organising and delivering our Active Flag initiatives.
- Proud Cloud – We have a whole school proud cloud where we encourage any child to write what they are proud of. This wall can contain a written note/picture of their achievement and displays it for the school to see. These achievements outside of school are in many different activities they get up to as well as achievements, both sporting and otherwise made in school. These achievements are also announced and celebrated at weekly assemblies. These achievements are acknowledged on Twitter and monthly letters to parents.
- Parents – Parents are encouraged to get involved in the physical education of their children in our school. This may be through the sharing of skills with children, helping out in school teams, organising sports days, helping out with Hurling 365 and celebrating the successes of achievements in our school.
- FAI Soccer – In the past we engaged in a soccer programme during term 2 and term 3 at a whole school level. Children in the senior end participated in school blitzes. The children were very successful and have won out the competition numerous times over the years. We look forward to participating in this programme again in the near future. In 2023 both the boys and girls from 6th class, along with some girls from 5th class, competed in the FAI 5-a-side soccer tournament alongside Mr. Gahan & Mrs. Delaney/Ms. Roche. Both teams made it to the county finals stage but unfortunately didn't progress any further. We look forward to possibly competing in this again next year.

Presentation of our new school jerseys and hurls
Presentation of our new jerseys at assembly on the 13th of January 2023. A word of thanks to Cllr. John O Rourke, TD James Browne, Parents Association, staff and our Active School Committee for all their hard-work and support in getting these jerseys. This was one of the first jobs for our committee this year to pick a design for the school and they did a fantastic job. See below our Active School Committee receiving the new jerseys as well as a word of thanks being given by one of our members. Go raibh maith agaibh!
As well as receiving new jerseys for the school we also received hurls and helmets on the 29th March 2023. These will get great use for both GAA coaching within the school as well as Hurling 365, Rackard League and many other activities.
